At Milkface, we're so pleased to be carrying this incredible pouch! One of my first slings, it remains very dear to me and what could be more perfect for Canadian babies than a snuggly fleece pouch?

Kangaroo Korner's most popular pouch and a best seller since 1999! Unlike non-adjustable pouches, our Adjustable Pouches are designed to grow with your baby and will accommodate your changing size due to a pregnancy.

Adjustable Fleece Pouches are made with unique 200 weight Malden Mills polarfleece and can be used in most climates year-round. The snug and flexible fleece will hold your baby snug against your chest. This style of pouch is perfect to use with all ages - including premature babies, infants of all sizes and even your growing toddler!

Dominance/Shoulder

When placing your order, you are required to select what arm is your dominant arm. If you are right-handed (vice versa if you are left-handed), you should order a right-snapped pouch. For more information on why, please read below.

For the cradle carry, kangaroo carry and tummy position (basically, for the first 6 months of your baby's life), you can wear your pouch on either of your shoulders without it making a bit of difference. The snaps will be located in the middle of your back regardless.

Once your baby is being worn primarily on your hip (around 5-6 months), you will experience maximum comfort if the sling is worn on the shoulder it was originally snapped for (e.g. worn on the right shoulder if you are right-handed). The pouch will still function fine on either shoulder, however, should you prefer to wear it on the opposite shoulder.

Most people, when NOT using a sling, carry baby using their dominant arm because it's stronger. However, when the sling is carrying baby's weight, you need to decide what arm you want to have free to do other things. Most right-handed people wear babies on their left hip, allowing their right arm to be free to do other things - this means the pouch is worn on your right shoulder.

How do you select the best size? Follow these simple instructions!

Using a soft tape measure, measure your upper chest circumference (loosely, over normal clothing), above the largest part of your bust (under your armpits), to help determine your pouch size. DO NOT MEASURE DIRECTLY "OVER" THE FULLEST PART OF YOUR BUST AND DO NOT USE YOUR BRA SIZE. If you do not have a soft tape measure, use a piece of string and a standard ruler to measure yourself. Men size similarly to women - that is, actual bust size is not usually taken into account when determining proper sizing. If you are currently in your 3rd trimester of pregnancy, you may want to subtract 1” from this measurement.

Use the chart to the left to determine your approximate size.

The majority of people who purchase our pouches wear size MEDIUM. A size small is usually best for a more petite person and a size large and x-large will usually accommodate people who are larger than average.

If the chart above recommends 2 sizes (e.g. M/L = Medium or Large), we strongly recommend purchasing both sizes to try on, side by side, with the intention of returning the sling that fits least well. This option will save you time, money and frustration. In addition, you will not need to go a day without wearing your baby in case a different size is needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why is selecting the right size pouch important?

A: Selecting the right size pouch is extremely important. In order to get a snug, secure and comfortable fit, your pouch must be the right size for you. If you wear a pouch that is too small for you, you simply will not be able to comfortably fit your baby inside. If you wear a pouch that is too big for you, your baby will be worn too low on your body. Not only is this unsafe for your baby, but it will cause you intense lower back pain as your baby's weight is not being evenly distributed throughout your body. Please use the chart below to help you determine which will be the best size for you and your child. Keep in mind that all people are sized differently and while our charts are very accurate, they cannot account for all variability's among people.

Q: I know your pouches are adjustable, but why is adjustability important?

A: Our pouches come standard with 4 adjustment rows to accommodate weight gain or weight loss due to a pregnancy or to accommodate extra room for bulky clothing. There is no need to purchase 2 sizes to accommodate your body and your baby for many years - only ONE pouch is necessary! There are two rows of overlap in between sizes. For example, the two loosest rows on the size medium are the same as the two tightest rows on the size large. This means that you may be able to comfortably wear 2 pouch sizes - this may also be helpful if you would like to share a pouch with someone smaller or larger than you.

Q: How do I know what dominance to order?

A: Our pouches are not perfectly symmetrical which is why you must choose a right or left dominant pouch. This decision is based mostly on your personal dominance. That is, if you are right-handed, you want to choose a right-dominant pouch. When baby is little, most right-handed people wear the pouch on either shoulder or more often on their left shoulder as this allows their right arm the most freedom of movement. However, when your baby is old enough to be worn on your hip, you will find it most comfortable to wear the pouch on your right shoulder. If you will be sharing the pouch with someone who has a different dominance than you, you should order for the person who will be wearing baby most often as an older infant or toddler.

Q: I am currently pregnant. How do I know what size to order?

A: Order your pouch based on your pre-pregnancy weight (+10-20#) and your current upper chest measurement (you may want to subtract 1” from your current measurement if you are in your 3rd trimester). Once you receive your pouch, please wait until your baby is born to determine if your pouch is the right size. We absolutely cannot emphasize this important fact enough. Our pouches are not intended to fit both a tummy and a baby. It is nearly impossible to tell how the pouch will feel with an actual baby when your large tummy is in the way! So, please keep your pouch and paperwork together in a safe place until your baby has arrived in case a return becomes necessary. You have 30 days from the day your baby was born to return your pouch.

Q: How can I tell if my pouch is too big?

A: When your baby is in the pouch, the lowest part of his body should be at your waist or higher. If you are wearing the pouch on the tightest row of snaps and your baby is riding below your waist, the pouch is too big and you do need a smaller size. If you are using a FLEECE pouch on the tightest row of snaps and the lowest part of your baby’s body is at your waist, your pouch may become too big for you as you wear it more, as your baby gets heavier and as you stretch the pouch into shape. With the FLEECE pouch, you need less room in the pouch as baby grows, not more.

Q: How can I tell if my pouch is too small?

A: Generally, if you can get baby into the pouch and it feels snug and comfortable, the pouch is the right size. You’ll know the pouch is too small if you simply cannot find any way to get baby in the pouch, even on the loosest row of snaps. If you are using the loosest row of snaps and the pouch feels too snug while wearing an infant or toddler, you probably need a larger size. If you are using the loosest row of snaps with a COTTON or SOLARVEIL pouch and the pouch feels fine, it may become too small for you as your baby grows as the fabrics used in these two types of pouches do not stretch with use and you will need more room in the pouch as your baby grows, not less.
